Real Estate Report: Castle cafe in Deering Oaks Park

PORTLAND (WGME) - There's a plan in the works for the castle at Deering Oaks Park that may entice you in more ways than one.

Deen Haleem and his wife have big plans for the little space. They are the owners of Tiqa restaurant in Portland..

The city confirms that they're in final negotiations with the couple to create a cafe at the castle that sits near the corner of Deering Oaks Park.

The city solicited ideas to create a castle cafe. Five were in the running, and Tiqa's plan stood out.

The building was originally built in 1894 as a warming hut for skaters.

Haleem and Mitchell plan to stay open until dusk daily, and hope this is a new dawn for Deering Oaks.

The city stresses, this isn't a done deal.

They're still working on the contract. The goal is to get it to the city council for approval on April 4.

If all goes as planned, Haleem and Mitchell hope to be open by early May.
