After 15 armed robberies, only one arrest in Southern Maine
BRUNSWICK (WGME) – There have been 15 armed robberies, in less than a month, across 10 communities in Southern Maine.
The latest string, moving north to the Midcoast and Androscoggin County, with three Wednesday night, in Auburn, Brunswick and Old Orchard Beach.
There are still no arrests from Wednesday night, and businesses are back on edge.
Wednesday, there were three armed robberies within a matter of only a few hours, the latest happening at the Brunswick Amato’s, and almost all involve a masked man, brandishing a hand gun, matching a similar description.
Dressed in all black, wearing a hood, ski mask and gloves, police say the first robbery Wednesday was committee by a man in Old Orchard Beach.
A few hours later, an Auburn Dunkin’ Donuts was also hit by a man with a gun, this time his face uncovered.
Forty-five minutes later, with hood and mask back on, a man robbed the Brunswick Amato’s, but police say it’s hard to tell if it’s all the same person.
Since March 20, there have been 15 robberies across 10 communities and only one has had an arrest.
Businesses here in Brunswick say it’s something they never would have expected.
Luckily, in all of these robberies, police say no one has been hurt, even though in Old Orchard the suspect was confronted with a billy club, police are urging all businesses to comply with the robber and then call them.
Police in each community and the FBI say they’re on alert, hoping they can catch this suspect before another business is targeted.
While investigators say they don’t have any leads right now, they’re hopeful a tip from the public could help.
If you know anything about this string of robberies, you’re asked to call your local police.
