BATH (WGME) -- A Bath bus driver is accused of taking “upskirt” photos of students and posting them online.

Police say 50-year-old Timothy McGowan, of Bath, took the illegal photos of students while driving them to and from school and special events.

Maine State Police were notified by Homeland Security last week about a bus driver from Maine allegedly posting “upskirt” photos of children on a foreign website.

Through the course of the investigation, images of six female students from the elementary, middle school, and high school were identified by police and staff from RSU1 and West Bath School, according to police.

Police identified McGowan as the suspect and searched his electronic devices. They say the images found his devices were the same as the ones uploaded on the website.

McGowan was charged with violation of privacy on Wednesday.

Parents of the students involved were notified by school administrators on Thursday.

McGowan has been placed on leave by the Bath Bus Service and is not currently driving a school bus.

Police say the Bath Bus Service conducted all the proper background checks on McGowan prior to his employment as a bus driver.

McGowan has no previous criminal convictions, according to police.

All the images have been removed from the website.
