BRUNSWICK (WGME) -- Police say they have found the body of a missing Brunswick man.

They say the body of 26-year-old Daniel Gagnon of was found around 11 a.m. Wednesday in a heavily wooded area off of River Road in Brunswick.

Gagnon, who worked as a security officer at Bowdoin College, left his home last week on foot, according to a release from the Brunswick Police Department.

His best friend since childhood, Nick Greenleaf of Edgecomb, said Tuesday that he’d been asked to speak on behalf of the family. Greenleaf said Gagnon left his keys, car and wallet at the Pleasant Street home he shares with his girlfriend.

“I was on the phone with him around quarter to one,” Greenleaf said. “He didn’t say anything to me about leaving. Everything conversation-wise was upbeat. He had to work that night.”

Police say his death does not appear to be suspicious, but the investigation is ongoing.
