Woman killed in overnight fire in Eliot (WGME)

ELIOT (WGME) -- An elderly woman was killed in an overnight fire in Eliot and a second person was injured after jumping out a second-story window.

The State Fire Marshal's Office says the fire happened in the woman's apartment on Hanscom Road.

Firefighters on scene say they responded to the call around 11:15 p.m. Monday.

The apartment was located over a garage, next to a home.

Fire Investigators say the fire started in the garage and spread to the apartment on the second floor.

The Eliot fire chief says they knew someone was trapped inside the home when they arrived, but crews were not able to get to her.

The chief says one person jumped from a second floor window to escape the fire. That person was taken to the hospital with injuries.

The attached house also was badly damaged.

The name of the victim has not been released.
