Festivities begin for Tall Ships Portland
PORTLAND (WGME) – The U.S. Coast Guard Eagle and the Oliver Hazard Perry are in Portland Harbor for Tall Ships Portland.
The public will get to climb aboard this weekend.
The Eagle looked spectacular as she made her way into Portland Harbor Friday morning. One of the first orders of business was the official welcome to Portland, which happened at the Portland Ocean Terminal.
Portland Mayor Ethan Strimling and representatives of the Eagle say they are very proud that this majestic ship has chosen to spend time once again in Portland, and the ceremony signals the start of a big weekend in the city.
There were a number of people here to welcome the ship as it docked. Most of them were the parents of the midshipmen who have been training and sailing on board.
It took a lot to get the Eagle into Portland's Harbor, after it sailed from Halifax, Nova Scotia and docked in Hussey Sound.
