Hotel housekeeper allegedly stabbed multiple times by guest in Portsmouth
PORTSMOUTH (WGME) -- Portsmouth police say they're investigating a stabbing at the Sheraton Harborside Hotel in Portsmouth, involving a housekeeper and a guest.
"Victim was a 58-year-old hotel worker, female, who was stabbed multiple times with scissors in the face, neck, chest, and pectoral area," Portsmouth Police Chief Robert Merner said.
He says the incident started when New York resident Jasmine Henderson, 32, asked a hotel housekeeper when her room would be cleaned. He says the employee replied that she would be cleaning that side of the hotel shortly, and then she was attacked.
"The suspect then attacked the hotel employee with the scissors, calling injuries, hotel worker attempted to flee, was chased down the hotel and stabbed a couple more times," Merner said.
Police say the victim was transported to a nearby hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police say Henderson is charged with second-degree assault, attempted second-degree murder, and felony criminal threatening. They say Henderson was denied bail, and will be transferred to Rockingham County Jail. Police say that they initially had a tough time identifying Henderson.
"We have a name in which the room was booked, and the credit card was booked on a different number. It appears to be a mental health problem, or a person-in-crisis issue," Merner said.
Sheraton Hotel officials wouldn't talk on camera with CBS13, but sent the following statement:
"We are working closely with the authorities as they investigate this incident, and we are doing all we can to support our associate who we are thankful has been released from the hospital and is resting at home. The safety and welfare of our guests and associates is always a top priority. Because this is a matter under investigation, we are unable to comment further."
Police say the motive for the stabbing is still under investigation. They say Henderson will appear via video for a court hearing next week.
