Judge orders mental health evaluation for mother accused of killing daughter
BELFAST (WGME) -- A judge orders a mental health evaluation for the Stockton Springs mother accused of beating her own daughter to death.
Sharon Carrillo will be examined at Riverview Psychiatric Facility.
She and her husband Julio Carrillo are charged with murder in the death of 10-year-old Marissa Kennedy.
Sharon Carrillo's lawyer says his client is a victim of abuse herself, and has a severe learning disability.
"There have been some psychological tests that have shown here down in what we would say in the second percentile of intelligence in the areas of verbal comprehension and reasoning,” Lawyer Chris MacLean said. “That means that 98 percent of the population has stronger verbal reasoning skills than she does."
According to court paperwork, Marissa was beaten daily by her mother and stepfather.
