Maine representative passes away unexpectedly
LISBON (WGME) -- The entire community of Lisbon is in mourning Wednesday after the unexpected death of State Representative Gina Mason Tuesday night.
Mason was in her first term of office for the state, but previously served as a town councilor in Lisbon.
Rep. Mason's son, Senator Garrett Mason, released the following statement:
"It is with great sadness that I inform you of the sudden passing of my beloved mother, Gina. She was the bedrock of our family and our hearts are broken over this tragic loss. While I know my mother has returned to Almighty God, at this most difficult time, I ask for your thoughts and prayers."
She also was an intricate part of the famous Moxie Festival, and served on the school board.
Friends say they are still in total shock.
"She was the sole person of the Moxie Festival Parade, and she will sorely, sorely missed from this community,” Tracey Steuber, Moxie Festival director, said.
She is survived by her daughter and her son, State Senate Majority Leader Garrett Mason.
