PORTLAND (WGME) – Students walked the stage Friday as they graduated from a program that will help them join the workforce.

Their commencement was held Friday at the Portland Public Library.

Sixteen graduates are finishing the Youth Building Alternatives program, which is hosted by "Learning Works."

The program is for young people who left the tradition school system.

It provides them with a high school education.

Friday, Executive Director Heather Davis gave students advice for their future.

“There will be many hurdles to face, you'll need to figure out who you can trust, and learn who your allies are, all the while, you will be learning who you are, getting closer to the life you want," Davis said.

Youth Building Alternatives is a nationally accredited program.
