USM installs a new president
GORHAM (WGME) -- The University of Southern Maine has a new president.
President Glen Cummings was installed at a ceremony on the Gorham campus earlier today.
More than 1,500 people attended the event. There was a colorful procession of students, faculty, alumni and other university presidents.
Administrators say President Cummings will be a good fit for the school and the State.
"USM is on the rise, in part because we have a leader who has deep Maine roots. He cares about this community and this state so deeply, that I think the spirit on the campus is just electric,” says Adam Tuchinsky, the dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at USM.
Today's ceremony also included special guests and musical performances by students from USM's school of music.
