WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) - Kathy Griffin has not been silent about her disdain for President Trump but she took it to a whole new level on Tuesday.

Griffin, along with photographer Tyler Shields, participated in a photo shoot in which Griffin holds a fake, bloodied head that resembles Donald Trump. In a behind the scenes video, Griffin says "Tyler and I are not afraid to do images that make noise."

The gory image has received a lot of scrutiny on social media. Some are calling for CNN to fire Griffin from their annual New Year's Eve show which she hosts alongside Anderson Cooper live from Times Square in New York.

Donald Trump Jr. also weighed in on the controversy calling it, "disgusting but not surprising."

So far, Griffin is not backing down from the photo. In an interview with The Daily Beast contributing writer Yashar Ali, Griffin said she believes "Trump is doing tremendous damage to the country and the world" and she wanted the art to reflect the seriousness of his impact.

She reportedly said the blood in the photo is a reference to a comment Trump made on the campaign trail about NBC News host Megyn Kelly when he said she had "blood coming out of her eyes" after a debate.

A spokesperson for Griffin spoke with The Huffington Post and said, “Kathy is all about pushing the limits and she went above and beyond on this one. Now lets just hope she stays out of jail.”

Griffin also released a series of tweets saying she doesn't condone any sort of violence in response to her photo.

Griffin joked with Shields during the photo shoot saying they might need to move to Mexico after the pictures are released in case they end going to prison, according to TMZ.

Last December after Trump's victory, Griffin talked about how it was time for comedians to come after Trump.

"Now more than ever we must absolutely go for all the absurdities. For me that's Trump and all thing Trump. It's not about trying to be an equal-opportunity offender anymore because Hillary got such a beat down. It’s his turn. So I’m happy to deliver beat down to Donald Trump — and also to Barron. You know a lot of comics are going to go hard for Donald, my edge is that I’ll go direct for Barron. I’m going to get in ahead of the game.”

Griffin also coincidentally gave Kelly the middle finger and boo'ed her after the journalist said during a speech that she had high hopes for Trump's presidency.
