2017 was one of the best years for home sales in Maine
STATEWIDE (WGME) -- 2017 was one of the best years for home sales in Maine, according to the Maine Association of Realtors.
To say it's been a busy year for realtors in Maine, would be an understatement.
“It is nonstop and seven days a week and the phone is constantly ringing,” Greg Gosselin, Maine Association of Realtors, said.
Gosselin was the 2017 president of the Maine Association of Realtors.
For him, it was a year he'll never forget.
"On any given month during the summer, I would have on average four closings and the price ranges are all over. I've had prices range from $320,000 to $1.5 million,” Gosselin said.
Gosselin wasn't the only realtor selling lots of houses in Maine.
The numbers aren't in for December yet, but in seven out of the other 11 months, home sales were up compared to 2016.
In August, there was an increase of 6.36 percent.
In January, 7.87 percent.
In October, just over 8 percent.
In March, 9.18 percent and then November, a whopping increase of 11. 46 percent.
"I think the economy has a lot to do with it. I think a lot of people are very forward thinking. I think they are confident. The job growth rate in the US and Maine is doing well and think that is a driver,” Gosselin said.
2017 was a year to remember in the real estate market, but what about 2018?
"Everthing that I’m reading, everything that we are hearing from Lawrence Yun, which is our economist from the National Association of Realtors, they are saying this year is going to be a very good year and exceed last year as well,” Gosselin said.
If you're looking for a new home, Gosselin has one important piece of advice.
“Don't try and low ball. It's not a buyers’ market. It's truly a sellers’ market. With the lack of inventory today, there's multiple offers on houses that are priced properly and they go quickly,” Gosselin said.
The numbers for December should be out by the end of January.
