STATEWIDE (WGME) -- For a lot of people, the kitchen is one of the most important spaces in a house. When replacing countertops, there are a lot of options.
Contractor Warren O'Shea has worked on a lot of kitchens. He says whether you want to renovate for yourself or before you sell, there's something for everyone.
"You really got to look at your lifestyle," O'Shea says.
Laminate is a budget-friendly, durable option.
"Generally it's the cheapest," says O'Shea.
Then there's natural stone surfaces, beautiful, but more expensive.
"Could be granite, could be slate, could be marble," adds O'Shea.
Quartz countertops are engineered with mostly natural materials. O'Shea says there's also concrete and tile is making a comeback.
"They have an epoxy grout which is a polyester resin that is completely impervious to staining, it's just fantastic," he says.
There's really no wrong option, but O'Shea says if you're selling, make sure it fits with the rest of the house.
"You really don't want to go crazy with something just really elaborate," he says, "Middle of the road, appealing to all, is a good way to go."
