CMP customers could end up paying for state investigation


Central Maine Power customers could end up paying for the state investigation into CMP, according to new paperwork from the Maine Public Utilities Commission.

The commission is looking into record-high power bills in the state.

They've ordered a management audit, focusing on the power company's metering and billing systems.

The order from the PUC says Central Maine Power has to pay for the audit up front, but also says CMP can eventually "recover" the costs.

That means CMP could raise rates in the future to pay for the investigation.

This issue came to light after the CBS 13 I-Team analyzed hundreds of customer bills and shared what we found with state regulators.
