BANGOR (WGME) -- A Bangor woman charged with manslaughter in the death of her boyfriend changed her plea from not guilty to guilty in court on Monday.

A judge then sentenced 20-year-old Olivia Babin to 20 years in prison, with all but 10 suspended, which means she will spend 10 years behind bars.

Babin was accused of fatally shooting 24-year-old Daniel Ford Coates in April.

Prosecutors say Babin took Ford Coates' handgun from his bedroom without the magazine to scare him and two others. Babin allegedly manipulated it in a way that suggested it was unloaded and held it to his head in a joking manner, before pulling the trigger.

They then accused her of disposing of the gun in a nearby stream and changing her clothes before returning to the scene to call 911 several minutes later.

Babin addressed members of both her family and Ford Coates family in court, saying she accepts full responsibility for her actions.

Several loved ones of Ford Coates also spoke, sharing how the loss is affecting them.

Babin's sentence will also include six years of probation.
