PORTLAND (WGME) -- A Berwick woman will have to pay nearly $60,000 in restitution after a more than 10-year fraud scheme.
Andreanna Politano, 60, has also been sentenced to three years of probation.
Politano was ordered to pay $49,976.38 in restitution to the Social Security Administration and $9,164.00 in restitution to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Politano pleaded guilty on September 12, 2022 for Social Security fraud and theft of public money.
According to court records, she concealed the presence of her husband in her home from March 2009 to February 2020, claiming they were separated.
She apparently did this so she could keep getting Social Security payments. She also lied about her husband living with her to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development so she could get housing voucher subsidy benefits.
Her husband, who was living with her, had sufficient income that would've made her ineligible for those benefits.
