Bridgton time capsule reveals letters from the past
BRIDGTON (WGME) – A time capsule from the late 1960s was opened in Bridgton Friday, revealing messages from the past.
The time capsule contains around 100 letters dating back to 1968, but it wasn't completely sealed until sometime in 1969.
The goal back then was to keep it sealed for 50 years.
It was opened last Saturday in front of hundreds of residents.
Some of the letters were written to future residents who hadn't been born yet.
There were also some newspapers showing major events like the moon landing.
The Bridgton Historical Society says this helps track the community's identity.
The time capsule was created on the 200th anniversary of the first settlement of Bridgton.
It will be sealed again with new items, for future residents to discover in the year 2068.
