BRUNSWICK (WGME) – A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Brunswick for a new elementary school Wednesday.
The $20 million Kate Furbish Elementary School is being built where the old Jordan Acres School was, which has been closed since 2011 due to structural issues, and will be torn down.
At Wednesday's event, some called it bittersweet, including a former student.
She told CBS 13 she was sad to say goodbye to where she spent time growing up, but is happy for a new beginning.
“I’m so excited for the new school, my kids will be going to it, excited to be a part of it," Ellen Domingos said.
The new 88,000 square-foot building will offer grades Pre-K through second grade.
