'It wasn't feasible to make a profit:' Jay paper mill shuts down after explosion

JAY (WGME) -- The Androscoggin Paper Mill in Jay has stopped making paper.

Last month, the mill said they would begin shutting down this week, and now they've stopped production entirely.

A spokesperson for Pixelle Specialty Solutions says there will be minimal staff on hand to continue the mill's shutdown process.

Pixelle says they closed the mill because it wasn't feasible to make a profit following the explosion and destruction of its two pulp digesters in 2020.

About 230 people are losing their jobs with the closure of the mill.
