Maine dentists offer free care to those in need
PORTLAND (WGME) -- Some Maine dentists are making a difference Friday by giving out free dental care.
The "Dentists Who Care for ME" campaign helps people who cannot afford treatment or have no insurance.
More than a half-dozen dental offices throughout the state provided their services, including dental students at the University of New England.
"The students here are more than happy to give that care to Maine,” UNE student Emily Floyd said. “In the state of Maine, anybody can come and get their service done for free today and this is our first year doing it and I thought we’ve had an awesome turnout so I’m really stoked about that."
Over the past 10 years, Dentists Who Care for ME has helped more than 4,000 patients and provided services valued at over $1.2 million.
