PORTLAND (WGME) -- People in Maine’s outdoor industry came together in Portland Thursday to say Maine's beauty is not only wonderful, but a way to build up Maine's economy.
Thursday, the "Maine Office of Outdoor Recreation" teamed up with "Maine Outdoor Brands" to present the first ever "Maine Outdoor Economy Summit."
Organizers say the summit, held at Thompson's Point, helps create a platform for professional development and discussions.
They say the outdoor industry has a huge impact on the state, and to continue to grow, it's key to have people in the public and private sectors working together.
“Really, it’s a chance for the outdoor industry to connect, to learn, and to collaborate,” Maine Outdoor Brands Executive Director Jenny Kordick said. “We know there’s a lot of networking happening and presentations on some of the latest trends and innovative ideas, so we really think it’s going to be a forum for professional development and broader conversations about how we can grow Maine’s outdoor recreation economy.”
Governor Janet Mills kicked off the day-long event Thursday morning.
