Officials identify Belfast man who died in barn collapse
BELFAST (WGME) -- The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office says a man is dead, after a barn roof collapsed onto him and others.
Thursday night, two men are injured and one is dead after a construction project gone wrong. The sheriff’s office says the barn was not completely collapsed, but enough damage had been done.
The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office says beams from the back section of the barn fell while a construction crew was working.
The group was in the process or tearing down the barn when the accident happened.
One person, 55-year-old William Viles of Belfast, died at the scene.
Two other men were rescued after becoming trapped.
One went to the hospital with minor injuries.
The sheriff says the demolition project had been going on all week.
"I saw over the last couple days the lumber was being taken off and out to the side,” Waldo County Sheriff Jeff Trafton said. “So, I knew this operation was happening out there."
The sheriff’s office says the scene remains under investigation Thursday night.
