One person dead after multi-car crash in Auburn
AUBURN (WGME) - One person is dead after a serious crash in Auburn Saturday.
Late Saturday afternoon, police responded to Turner Road, between Lake Shore Drive and Lake Grove Lane for a three vehicle crash.
Officials say after investigation that a pickup truck, being driven by Stephen Witham, 50, of Lewiston, was travelling on Turner Road, when he crossed into the other lane.
Witham's truck collided with an Nissan SUV being driven by a Hartford woman, causing the SUV to overturn and come to a rest on its roof. The Hartford woman and her three teenage passengers were treated on scene and only had minor injuries.
Witham's car then collided with another Nissan SUV, driven by Zachary Cowett, of Hartford. Cowett, 32, was the lone occupant of the vehicle and was killed from injuries sustained in the collision.
Witham was the only occupant of his pickup truck and he was transported to Central Maine Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Officials say that Witham doesn't have a valid driver license.
This crash remains under investigation. Route 4 will be temporarily closed to all traffic on Sunday at around 3PM to allow officials to further investigate this crash.
