Oxford County Sheriff resigns amid sexting scandal
PORTLAND (WGME) – Embattled Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant resigned from office Wednesday.
The county administrator for Oxford County tells CBS 13 that embattled Sheriff Wayne Gallant has resigned from his position as county sheriff Wednesday afternoon.
This comes after the county commission voted unanimously Tuesday night to file a complaint against the sheriff with the governor's office, asking that the governor remove him from office.
CBS 13 was the first to tell you about the allegations against Sheriff Gallant.
In an exclusive off-camera interview, Gallant admitted to us on Nov. 21 that he took an explicit photo of himself while inside his office and in uniform and sent it to an unidentified woman.
The commissioners’’ complaint alleges Gallant texted multiple indecent photos to one of his male officers, and his female companion. It also alleges Gallant solicited them for sex.
County officials say Gallant's chief deputy will be in charge of the department for the time being.
