ROCHESTER (WGME) – A man wanted by Maine State Police is dead, and an officer involved shooting is under investigation in New Hampshire Monday night.

Rochester police say 38-year-old Douglas Heath is dead after being shot multiple times during an exchange of gunfire with police.

One witness shared cell phone video where you can see a Rochester police officer firing at Heath.

Police say Heath was wanted on charges of trafficking narcotics and fleeing Maine State Police.

New Hampshire Attorney General Gordon McDonald says the incident is still under investigation, but that early information indicates deadly force was necessary.

One witness says that she is glad she left the house when she did, or she could have been hit by one of the cars involved, or worse.

"I'm grateful I decided to go in the house and talk to my sister for a minute, because if not we could have been hit," Izzy Ryder Mason said.

State police say the officers involved in the shooting are placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
