Police investigating death of 4-year-old girl in Wiscasset
WISCASSET (WGME) -- An investigation is underway into the death of a little girl in Wiscasset.
Investigators are saying very little about the case and have not released the autopsy results.
Maine State Police have joined Wiscasset Police in investigating the death of a 4-year-old girl, who lived with her grandfather and his fiancée.
State police say last Friday afternoon an ambulance responded to a 911 call, placed from a home near the end of Crickets Lane from someone reporting an unresponsive child.
Police say EMT’s rushed the little girl to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, but they say 4-year-old Kendall Chick died shortly after her arrival.
"Our investigators are focused on finding out what happened to that little girl inside that home,” Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland said.
McCausland says detectives have questioned the child's grandfather and his fiancée, who he says are cooperating with the investigation.
"We're interviewing everyone we can as we try to learn what caused that little girl's death,” McCausland said.
A family member of the couple who cared for Kendall says the couple recently had a party for Kendall’s fourth birthday.
The family member says she was well taken care of and says she has never seen any signs of abuse or neglect.
The family member says the child's grandfather and his fiancée are devastated over her death, and says the couple is too upset to return to their home.
The relative CBS 13 spoke to says the family has been told nothing about the investigation or the autopsy.
She says what happened to Kendall is a complete mystery to them, and says they wants answers too.
