PORTLAND (WGME) – It's a fall tradition in Portland that puts science, technology, engineering and math in the spotlight; the fifth annual "STEM" expo was held Friday at USM.
Each year the expo brings in about 1,800 visitors, most of them Portland public school students, brought in by the busload to see all the exhibits.
Students also got a chance to learn about local high-tech companies and technology based careers.
"We want our kids to stay in Maine, we want them to be excited about these careers, and this is the way to get it started," Co-Coordinator Kathy Cole said.
Over the past five years, there have been 250 exhibits, and more than 7,000 students have had a chance to check them out.
