SKOWHEGAN (WGME) – A Skowhegan driving instructor has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.
The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office says they received the complaint from the administration of Carrabec High School Wednesday.
The report said that an 18-year-old student in the driver’s education program was having a sexual relationship with an instructor, 58-year-old Duane Marquis of the Skowhegan Driving School.
Police say Marquis admitted to the relationship.
Marquis was charged with Class C Gross Sexual Assault.
He was taken to the Somerset County Jail, where bail was set at $2,500 cash under the condition that he have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family.
The sheriff's office states that specifically, according to Maine Criminal Law, the Gross Sexual Assault statute reads: “The other person, not the actor’s spouse, is a student enrolled in a private or public elementary, secondary or special education school, facility or institution and the actor is a teacher, employee or other official having instructional, supervisory or disciplinary authority over the student.”
