Thursday marks 76th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor

PORTLAND (WGME) -- Thursday is the 76th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, which triggered the United States' involvement in World War II.

Several American ships were destroyed on that day.

According to the US Census, 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 more were wounded.

Veterans will hold a remembrance ceremony at Fort Allen Park in Portland at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the mast of the USS Portland.
